The canons of the Council of Nicaea were gradually accepted by the Syriac-speaking Christians to the East of the Byzantine Empire throughout the fourth-century, but they were not officially recognized until a council of Eastern Bishops met in Seleucia-Ctesiphon in 410 CE. At this council, which is frequently referred to as the Synod of Mar Isaac, the leaders of the Syriac tradition officially recognized the canons of the Council of Nicaea and created a Syriac version of the canons for use in the Syriac churches. In the present volume, T. J. Lamy presents the Syriac text of the canons accompanied by a Latin translation and notes to the text in Latin. Lamy also includes two supplemental texts of later Syriac works that include discussions of the council and the canons.
