This volume contains an (anonymous) introduction to the Psalms, together with two homilies from Daniel of Salah’s (fl. mid-6th century) long Psalms commentary. Diettrich gives both the Syriac text and a facing German translation. The thorough introduction to the book includes a discussion of the manuscript on which the edition of the Psalms Introduction is based, an analysis of the Introduction’s contents, its aims and readership, its probable sources, the textual evidence of its biblical citations (Peshitta, but also with Greek influence), the possible identity and time of the author (not Daniel of Salah), and, finally, the theological tone of the work. This volume will be of definite interest for students and scholars interested in the history of biblical interpretation.
