While it was the world’s greatest empire, Spanish power reached across to the Americas, into Africa and Asia. However, Spanish relations with Middle Eastern and other Islamic areas during the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries are less well-known. This collection of articles seeks to explore these interactions between Spain and the Ottoman Empire, Persia and Central Asia. The seventeen articles here were presented at a congress held in Naples in 2004.
