In this volume, originally part of the series Beiträge zur Volks- und Völkerkunde, the well-known Semitic linguist Mark Lidzbarski (1868-1928) presents annotated German translations of Neo-Aramaic stories, tales, and songs. The notes include references to other versions of these stories, or similar stories, elsewhere. Among the stories is a version of the Ahiqar legend. The introduction briefly discusses the collection itself from which the translations have been made, and some of the selections also have their own introduction. This volume provides ample material of interest not only for folklorists, but even for general readers.
