In this work, Hoffmann has edited two Syriac texts bearing on the (in)famous Julian the Apostate, both in terms of history and religion. The first text is a long life of Julian dealing with his childhood and adult career, and the second—from a different author—is shorter and treats his fall from Christianity. The book is prefaced with a brief introduction, including a critical apparatus to the Syriac texts and indices of proper names and Greek words that occur in the text.
