In the second half of the nineteenth century, the Church of England sent teachers to the Church of the East community in the Middle East, and this group and their work were known as the Archbishop’s Mission. This volume brings together letters and other documents dealing with the Mission and the Christians of the region. It will prove valuable to readers interested in travel and missionary literature, history (including political history) of the region, information on the doctrine, practice, and character of members of the Church of the East, the school at Urmia and the press there, Eastern Christian liturgical matters, and the study of Syriac. A number of illustrations, both of people and of locales, are included, as is a list of staff at the Mission and an index of proper names and subjects.
