In a previous publication, Études Syriaques, Félix Nève documented the growing interest in Syriac studies, particularly as it pertains to the fields of biblical studies, patristics, and history. The present article is a follow-up piece to that publication that provides an in depth discussion of recent works in the field of Syriac studies that have advanced knowledge in other fields. Nève presents this material in five sections, with each section dedicated to the literature that pertains to a particular subfield: 1) biblical studies, 2) Greek and Latin patrsitics, 3) the Syriac speaking Church, including history, dogma, and liturgy, 4) education and learning in the ancient world, and 5) linguistic and philological. Néve’s aim here is to show the ways that the recent works of Syriac studies that he discusses have influenced the broader study of each area. Thus, this work represents a selective literature review for Syriac studies in the early to mid nineteenth-century. Néve pays special attention to how these works relate to one another and to other similar works in their respective fields.
