In 1879-80, Eduard Sachau traveled to various sites in the Middle East in order to make a report on his travels and experiences there. The primary locations of Sachau’s journey include Damascus, Aleppo, Urfa, Mosul and Alexandria, though he also includes accounts of many smaller villages and sites around these cities. While many other travel narratives focus primarily on anthropology and interactions with various people groups, Sachau pays special attention to matters of topography of geography. Sachau also includes reports on various historical sites that he visits with discussions of archaeological ruins and inscriptions.
