The Philalethes of Severus of Antioch (d. 538) is one of the most important documents of anti-Chalcedonian christological writing. This volume contains the Syriac text edited from Vatican Syriac ms. 139 (perhaps of the eighth century), a Latin translation, and a brief introduction (in Latin), which describes the manuscript in detail and points out the most significant Syriac terms in the text and how they are translated into Latin. Sanda annotates the Syriac text with observations on the appearance and readings of the manuscript and on the Greek Vorlage. After the Latin translation, a list of authors cited by Severus is found. Readers who study the christological controversies of the fifth and sixth centuries will certainly find this a significant volume for study, as will all those interested in Syriac literature and Greek-Syriac translations.
