This volume comes from the pen of an eyewitness to the events described in it. Rev. Father Joseph Naayem, based on his experiences and conversations with others, narrates the horrors experienced by the Chaldean Christians prior to World War I at the hands of the Turks. His language is that of one who personally suffered at their hands, and his aim in having the work published was to inform readers in England and the United States of these events that were otherwise not well known specifically with respect to the Chaldeans. He begins with a massacre in Urfa (ancient Edessa), and then moves to other regions. Throughout the narrative, his account is close and personal. The volume will make an important contribution for readers interested in Middle Eastern history and Christianity there.
