This large volume contains the decisions of the Synod of Sharfeh (Charfet) held in 1888. Although the Synod is often cited especially for its binding Syriac Catholic priests to celibacy, there are in fact a very large number of subjects dealt with there, and indeed almost every aspect of how the Syriac Catholic community, from clerics to the services, is to function is touched on here. The prefatory material includes prayers, decrees, and letters pertaining to the Synod; the appendices also provide some related documents of decisions before and after the Synod itself. This important text will be of interest to all those who study Canon Law generally or who are especially concerned with the Syriac Catholic Church.
