Edwin W. Fay, a professor of comparative linguistics at the University of Texas who was known for his translations of the Rig-veda Mantras in the Grhya Sutras, here proposes a mathematical formula accounting for the nasal sounds in Sanskrit verbs, and then applies these formulae to other Indo-European languages including Greek and Latin. This approach will be of interest to the specialist in linguistics, though it does also offer interesting ideas for the less technical reader of ancient languages.
